We're keeping sustainability in mind at Westgate Oxford this festive season. In partnership with HemingwayDesign, WasteLess Wonderland is a Christmas market with a difference, offering 'good-for-the-planet' gifts from independent designers and promising an eclectic line-up of attractions, events and experiences.
For the musically minded among you, The Junk Orchestra is bringing the beats with its giant Music Mushrooms – whilst foodies can tuck into tasty relishes made from surplus fruit and veg from the Wonky Food Company; street food dishes from the Climatarian Kitchen; and delicious Middle Eastern food from Damascus Rose, a social enterprise supporting refugee women in Oxford.
As if that wasn't enough, there's ample opportunity to get hands-on in the lead-up to Christmas. Take a look at our roster of wonderful workshops:
WasteLess Wonderland becomes a party every Friday from 3pm-7pm! Guests can look forward to a pop-up bar from Toast, with the company’s award-winning craft beer brewed with surplus fresh bread that would otherwise go to waste – plus, to make that pint even more feel-good, Toast’s profits go to charities working to fix a wasteful food system. All this to the tune of our ‘Recycled DJ Party’ with Charity Shop DJ, using vinyl records sourced solely from charity shops. Guests can pick a record, get behind the turntables and have a go at being a DJ themselves, dedicating their tracks to loved ones.
Charity Super.Mkt, the ‘department store for second-hand style’ launched earlier this year by Maria Chenoweth and Wayne Hemingway, has opened a brand-new store right here at Westgate!
The Charity Super.Mkt concept has proven hugely popular with shoppers, thanks to its curated collections of second-hand fashion. To date, hundreds of thousands of items of clothing have been snapped up, generating sales of more than £1m for charities. Its three current charities are TRAID, Havens Hospices and Sobell Hospice.
Our Charity Super.Mkt store is located on the Lower Mall, next to & Other Stories.
